Pavithrothsavam at Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple

Pavithrothsavam at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam is celebrated in the Tamil month of Aani (August – September). The annual Pavitrotsavam festival is conducted to rectify any defects that are happened during daily pooja services performed to Lord Ranganatha.

On the first day of the festival, Thiruvaradhanam is conducted for 365 times to the Utsava murty in Yaga Salai. On the second day Thiruvaradhanam is performed for 1008 times in the sanctum sanctorum for all the deities and are fully covered with holy thread which is named as Boocandi Sevai (Angobanga Sevai).

Pavitrotsavam festival is conducted in Pavithra Mandabam or Cheranai Vendran Mandabam in the temple. During the festival all temple deities are worn Holy Cotton thread Garland or pavithram.
