Story of Dudhadhari Hunuman Temple

There is a great story behind the idol of this temple. Swami Balbhadra Das who was an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman was worshiping a Swayambu Hanuman. He will offer milk as Prasad to Hanumanji and the Prasad he used to drink. It is believed that a cow called Surhi would bathe the idol with the milk. In the course of time Mahant Swami Balbhadra Das was taking that milk only as food, hence he was called Dudh-Ahari. Devotees are fascinated to see, beautifully engraved scenes of Ramayana on the walls. It is said that Shri Balbhadra Das was highly devoted to Lord Hanuman.

During his stay in Raipur, he used to worship a stone as if it was Lord Mahaveer himself. This temple was constructed by King Raghu Rao Bhosle during 1610 AD. The renowned Dudhadhari Math or temple got its name from its original founder Balbhadra Mahant.
