Kesari vanara in Ramayana Father of Hanuman

Kesari in Ramayana is regarded as the father of Hanuman. He was a powerful vanara and is the husband of Anjana. Being a brave male vanara, Kesari was appointed as the chief of Sugriva's vanara force during the Rama-Ravana war.

Kesari was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Kesari used to wander around to different holy places and perform meditation whenever he found a scenic garden. Kesari along with Anjana prayed to Lord Shiva for a son. Mahadev pleased with the devotion of the couples blessed them with a powerful son. Hence Hanuman was born with the blessings of Lord Shiva, he was also known as Rudra and the son of Lord Shiv.
