Significance of Dhanteras Puja during Diwali Festival

Dhanteras Festival is associated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari.

On the day of Dhanteras, the “Owl” form of Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped to provide prosperity and well being. Business people give more importance to Dhan Trayodashi and most business communities begin their financial year on this day. People buy Gold, Silver or new utensils as they consider buying new precious metal is a sign of good luck. Lakshmi Puja is conducted on houses and business premises on the Dhanteras day.

According to Hindu Scriptures, Lord Dhanavantri, the physician of Hindu Gods, emerged from the ocean with “Amrit” on this day. Hence Dhanavantri Jayanti is celebrated on the day of Dhanteras.
