Tanot Mata Temple Jaisalmer Rajasthan

Tanot Mata Temple or Mateshwari Tanot Rai Mandir is a Hindu temple located near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, India. The temple is located in the quaint village of Tanot in Jaisalmer, very close to India - Pakistan border and the battle site of Longewala of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

The primary deity of Tanot Mata Temple is Goddess Tanot or Tanot Mata. Goddess Tanot is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Hinglaj which is located in Baluchistan. It is unbelievable that during the India-Pak war of 1965, Tanot Mata temple did not even touch by targeted bombs by Pakistan army due to Goddess Tanot’s divine power. The unexploded bombs that fell here now can be seen in the Tanot Mata Temple Museum.

Tanot Mata turned out to be a popular tourist destination and a perfect place to explore in the Thar Desert. The best time to visit Tanot Mata temple is October to March. One can reach here only by hiring a private taxi which takes about 2 hours. 

There is no mobile network other than BSNL. Public telephone booths are also not available. Tourists cannot go beyond this temple to see the Indo - Pak border unless getting relevant documentation in advance from the District and Military Authorities.
