Mallikarjuna Temple Basaralu Karnataka

Mallikarjuna Temple in Basaralu is an ancient Hindu temple located in the Mandya District of Karnataka, India. The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Mallikarjuna, a form of Lord Shiva. The temple was built in 1234 AD. This temple is built by King named Veera Narasimha II. 

The temple is of trikuta. The three shrines are connected by a common hall, which shows characteristics of both open and closed hall. At the entrance to the hall devotees can see elephant balustrades. There are amazing sculptures depicting scenes of sixteen-handed Shiva dancing on the head of a demon called Andhakasura, dancing images of a twenty-two armed Goddess Durga and Goddess Saraswati, King Ravana lifting Mount Kailash, Prince Arjuna shooting the fish target.

This temple is protected as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India. Maha Shivaratri is the main festival celebrated here grandly. During festive season, the temple witnesses a huge throng of devotees who come to offer their prayers.
