Keerthi Narayana Temple Talakad Karnataka

Keerthi Narayana Temple in Talakad (Talakadu) is one of the five Pancha Narayana temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This historic temple was built in the year 1117 AD by Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana at the behest of Shri Ramanujacharya. The primary deity worshipped here is Keerthi Narayana Perumal, a form of Maha Vishnu. This idol is of nine-foot-tall with Shanku, Chakra and Gadha and stands majestically on Garuda Peeta. The main complex of the temple has idols of Ramanuja, Vedantha Desika and Nammalwar. The temple is located at Talakadu, 50 km from Maddur via Malavallinear in Karnataka.

In the year 1117 AD King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Dynasty seized Talakad from the Cholas and assumed the title of Talakadugonda. In commemoration of this achievement, he built the Keerthinarayana temple at Talakad. Earlier, a sannidhi of Sundaravalli Thayar was part of this temple, though it was substituted with a navaranga mandapam that includes the idol of Keerthi Narayana.  Nearby situated the well-known Lakshminarayana Temple. Yoga Narasimha Swamy and Viswaksena idols are seen in the Artha Mandapam.
