International Gita Mahotsav in India 2024 December 7 to 24

International Gita Mahotsav is an annual event held in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India. The festival celebrates the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu scripture, and attracts participants and visitors from around the world. The festival is also known Gita Jayanti, Mokshada Ekadashi or Matsya Dvadashi. This year, International Gita Mahotsav 2024 is from 7th December to 24th December 2024.

Gita Mahotsav is a significant Hindu ceremony commemorating the momentous dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, as depicted in the Bhagavad Gita. This auspicious occasion takes place on Shukla Ekadashi, the 11th day of the waxing moon during the lunar month of Margashirsha (December-January) according to the Hindu calendar. 

The event typically includes various cultural and spiritual activities, such as recitation of the Bhagavad Gita, seminars, exhibitions, and performances. Pilgrims and tourists visit Kurukshetra, which is believed to be the battlefield described in the Mahabharata where Lord Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.


International Gita Mahotsav in India 2024 December 7 to 24

The Gita Aarti, a prayer discovered in the Bhagavad Gita, is recited at the beginning or end of all Gita chapters, following the Gita Dhyanam.

Several competition are conducted as part of International Gita Mahotsav. Competition such as Photography, Pencil Sketch, Rangoli, Fancy Dress Competition and Online Quiz are organzied during Gita Mahotsav. 

National & International Stalls

At the Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra city, over 300 national and international stalls are established during the International Gita Mahotsav. Additionally, pilgrims embark on the 48 Kos Parikrama of Kurukshetra.
