Adishakthyathmaka Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple Srikshetra Horanadu

 Sri Kshetra Horanadu is located on the serene banks of the River Bhadra in a remote region of Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka, surrounded by lush forests, green landscapes, and the natural beauty of the Western Ghats. 

The presiding deity, Adishakthyathmaka Sri Annapoorneshwari, is believed to have been consecrated several centuries ago by Sage Agasthya Maharishi. The temple has been under the stewardship of a hereditary line of Dharmakartharus for over 400 years.

In its early years, the temple structure was modest and enveloped by dense forest. Despite its simplicity, devotees regularly visited for worship and were always offered Annaprasada and shelter a sacred tradition that continues uninterrupted to this day.

The 5th Dharmakartharu, Late Sri D.B. Venkatasubba Jois, dedicated his life to temple development and social upliftment. Renovation work began in 1962, and in 1973, on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, the Prathistapana of Sri Adishakthi Devi and Punaprathistapana of Sri Annapoorneshwari were performed. The Mahakumbhabhisheka was conducted by Shrimad Jagadguru Sri Sri Abhinava Vidyathirtha Mahaswamiji of Sringeri Sharadapeetam. In recognition of his exceptional service, he was honored with the title “Annapurna Pada Seva Dhurandhara” and passed away in 1982.

The 6th Dharmakartharu, Late Sri D.V. Gajendraprasanna Jois, assumed office in 1981 under the blessings of Hariharapura Matha. He contributed significantly by constructing the Navagraha Temple (consecrated in 1991 by Sri Sri Bharathitheertha Mahaswamiji of Sringeri), modernizing the Annachathra with steam cooking, improving village drainage, building pilgrim accommodations, organizing free Brahmopadesha ceremonies, and supporting temple staff welfare. He passed away in 1991.

Today, Sri Kshetra Horanadu stands as a powerful spiritual center, upholding centuries-old traditions of devotion, service, and compassion.

The presiding deity of Sri Kshetra Horanadu is Adishakthyathmaka Sri Annapoorneshwari, the divine embodiment of Adi Shakti and the goddess of nourishment, prosperity, and compassion. She represents the supreme mother who sustains the universe by providing food, strength, and spiritual fulfillment to all beings. Worship of Sri Annapoorneshwari symbolizes the belief that no devotee should ever go hungry physically or spiritually.

Along with the main deity, the temple also houses Sri Adishakthi Devi, signifying cosmic energy and feminine power. The divine presence of Navagrahas is worshipped to seek balance, protection, and relief from planetary influences. Various supporting deities enshrined within the temple complex represent different aspects of divine grace and protection, ensuring holistic spiritual well-being for devotees.

Together, these deities reflect the temple’s core philosophy of Annadana (sacred food offering), selfless service, and universal compassion, making Sri Kshetra Horanadu a revered center of faith and spiritual nourishment.
