The Chirakkara Sree Bhagavathi Temple, located at Chirakkara P.O., Kollam, warmly announces its Mahotsavam 2026, scheduled from Saturday, 21 February to Friday, 27 February 2026 (Kumbham 09 to Kumbham 15). Celebrated with deep devotion and cultural splendor, this annual festival is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi, revered as the divine Mother and protector.The Mahotsavam begins on 21 February 2026 at 6:30 PM with the auspicious Thrikodiyettu (flag hoisting), marking the ceremonial commencement of the festivities. From this sacred moment, the temple transforms into a vibrant spiritual arena filled with prayers, rituals, and traditional performances.
The festival features a rich sequence of devotional observances including Thottampattu, Kalamezhuthu & Pattu, and Akhanda Naamam, invoking divine blessings through sacred songs and continuous chanting. Devotees experience an atmosphere of serenity and spiritual elevation as these rituals unfold.
On 22 February, Annadanam (community feast) begins from 12:00 PM onwards, symbolizing compassion, unity, and sacred service. The offering of meals reflects the temple’s long-standing tradition of sharing divine grace with all devotees.
A major highlight occurs on 23 February, beginning at 7:00 AM with the Samooha Pongala (community Pongala offering). Devotees gather in large numbers to prepare the sacred offering, expressing gratitude and devotion to the Goddess. From 8:30 AM onwards, Prabhatha Bhakshanam (breakfast prasadam) is served.
On 23 and 24 February, the temple welcomes grand processions arriving from various parts of the region. These colorful arrivals showcase devotion expressed through decorated floats, traditional music, and cultural vibrancy.
The morning of 24 February from 6:00 AM marks the opening of the Utsava Chantha (festival market). The temple premises bustle with activity as devotees and visitors engage in festive shopping and celebrations. The day is further enriched with Thalappoli, Chamayavilakku, Chenda Melam, and the majestic presence of Gajaveeranmar (caparisoned elephants).
The sacred Aarattu Procession stands as one of the most visually captivating events, accompanied by rhythmic percussion and ceremonial grandeur. Cultural programs including dance, drama, and theatrical performances add artistic brilliance to the celebrations.
Throughout the Mahotsavam, rituals such as Samooha Pongala, Annadanam, and Utsava Chantha continue, creating a harmonious blend of devotion, tradition, and community spirit.
