Shivaratri Mahotsavam 2026
Thavidissery Varavadikkavu Sree Kirathamurthi Temple, Kannur
The sacred observance of Shivaratri Mahotsavam 2026 will be celebrated with deep devotion and traditional grandeur at Thavidissery Varavadikkavu Sree Kirathamurthi Temple, located at Porakkunnu (P.O), Mathamangalam (via), Kannur District, Kerala – 670306. The ചടങ്ങുകൾ are scheduled for Sunday, 15 February 2026 (Kumbham 03, Malayalam Era 1201).
Dedicated to Sree Kirathamurthi, a fierce and protective manifestation of Lord Shiva, the temple holds a unique spiritual significance in the region. Devotees revere Kirathamurthi as the divine hunter form of Shiva, symbolizing शक्ति, तपസ് (penance), and the destruction of negativity. Shivaratri, the “Great Night of Shiva,” is considered one of the most auspicious occasions for prayer, meditation, and ആത്മശുദ്ധി (inner purification).
Spiritual Importance of Shivaratri
Shivaratri represents the cosmic convergence of Shiva and Shakti. It is believed that sincere worship on this night grants spiritual elevation, liberation from past karmas, and divine grace. Fasting, जागരണം (night vigil), and continuous chanting of “Om Namah Shivaya” are integral aspects of the observance.
At Thavidissery Varavadikkavu Temple, the festival will be conducted under the esteemed leadership of Temple Thantri Brahmasree Thekkiniyoth Tharananelloor Padmanabhan Unnithan Namboothiri, ensuring strict adherence to Vedic and Tantric traditions.
The temple committee respectfully invites the wholehearted participation, support, and cooperation of all devotees to ensure the successful conduct of this year’s Mahotsavam.
