Thiru Arangal Sree Mahadevar Temple Maha Mahotsavam 2026
The Thiru Arangal Sree Mahadevar Temple joyfully announces the Maha Mahotsavam 2026, to be celebrated on Sunday, 15 February 2026. This sacred occasion coincides with the revered observance of Maha Shivaratri, a night dedicated to Lord Shiva, symbolizing spiritual awakening, devotion, and inner transformation. Devotees from near and far gather at the temple to participate in rituals that embody centuries-old Shaivite traditions.
The Mahotsavam features a series of special poojas and ceremonies, meticulously performed to invoke divine grace and blessings. The day begins with Visheshāl Poojas (special worship rituals), where devotees offer prayers, flowers, and sacred items. One of the key highlights is the Shivaratri Pongala, a deeply symbolic offering representing devotion, surrender, and gratitude to Lord Mahadeva.
A spiritually uplifting ritual during the festival is the Vedasāra Shiva Sahasranāma Archana, where the thousand sacred names of Lord Shiva are chanted with Vedic precision. The rhythmic recitation fills the sanctum with divine vibrations, offering devotees a profound sense of peace and spiritual elevation.
As evening descends, the temple radiates with the glow of the Deepakazhcha (ceremonial lamp offering). Rows of illuminated lamps create a mesmerizing visual spectacle, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. The celebrations continue with the Rishabha Vāhana Ezhunnallathu, a majestic procession of the deity mounted on the sacred bull vehicle, representing Dharma and strength.
Throughout the night, Yāma Poojas are performed, marking the different phases of Shivaratri with continuous worship. Devotees engage in 108 Valaya Pradakshinam, a ritual circumambulation believed to bestow spiritual merit and divine blessings. The Shayana Pradakshinam follows, signifying humility and total surrender before the Lord.
The festival also includes the sacred Sreebhoothabali, a ritual offering made to divine attendants, preserving cosmic balance and harmony. A grand Aanappurathezhunnallippu (elephant procession) adds splendor and traditional grandeur to the Mahotsavam, captivating devotees and visitors alike.
From 12:00 PM onwards, the temple hosts Prasada Oottu (community feast). Devotees are warmly invited to participate and may contribute offerings such as rice, coconut, and vegetables for the prasadam preparation. This act of seva (selfless service) reflects the spirit of unity, generosity, and devotion that defines temple festivals.
The Maha Mahotsavam at Thiru Arangal Sree Mahadevar Temple stands as a celebration of faith, tradition, and divine grace, offering devotees an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
