Sri Mahalakshmi Ashtakam or Maha Lakshmi Ashtakam is the prayer dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, the divine consort of Lord Maha Vishnu. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped as the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. Sri Mahalakshmi Ashtakam appears in Padmapuranam (Padma Purana).     But i want to make clear that Maha is not abjective here to Laxmi.
    Goddess laxmi is consort of Lord Vishnu not Goddess MahaLaxmi. She is supreme Goddess, she is sri vidya. (read Devi Mahatmyam).
    She is mool of every thing. She though Tamas roop rpoduce mahakali and through satav roop she produces Maha Saraswati. Thus she is trigunatmika , she is thus tripura sundari.
