Kaumaram another name of Lord Muruga

Kaumaram is a Hindu sect that primarily worships the Hindu god of war, Kartikeya. Followers of Kumaran, known as Kaumaras, also hold great reverence for his family members - Goddess Parvati, Shiva, and Ganesha - as well as his consorts, Devasena and Sundaravalli, who are believed to be the daughters of Vishnu in Tamil tradition. Other popular names of Kaumaram are Skanda, Kumaran, Murugan, Arumugan, and Subrahmanyan.

The theological texts that pertain to Kumara are an integral part of the Shaiva agama canon. This particular sub-tradition is prevalent among the Tamils, Kannadigas, and the Vedda communities in South India, Sri Lanka, and among the Tamil diaspora across the globe. The love story between Kumara/Murugan and his wife Valli, a girl from a local tribe, is widely celebrated in Tamil Nadu, where Kumara has attained the status of a national deity.

Major Factors associated with Kumaram

Tamil Nadu has six primary temples for Kartikeya that are known by the name Arupadai Veedu, which that translates roughly as "the Six Stations".

Kavadi, a form of dance, is one of the primary modes of worship. Another aspect of this worship involves piercing a sharp piece of metal called alagu onto the body. Additionally, devotees carry milk and water on their heads as an offering to the deity. This worship also emphasizes following a sattvik diet.

Thaipusam is a festive event observed in Kaumaram, with a significant focus on almost all Muruga temples across the world especially Palani Murugan Temple in Tamil NaduBatu Caves Murugan Temple in Malaysia. Another important period of worship is the Shashti, which spans six days and brings together villages in South India that have primary Kartikeya deities. During this time, participants make a vow to adhere to a vegetarian diet. The six days are dedicated to depicting various events from the life of Kartikeya.
